Dear Congressman Souder:
I recently learned of the comments you made about government whistleblowers during the mark-up session on the Department of Homeland Security Management and Operations Improvement Act of 2006. I am also aware of the letter sent to you by Sibel Edmonds, Director and Founder of the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition. Sibel is on point and I wholeheartedly agree with her comments.
I will now weigh in with comments of my own. Your portrayal of government whistleblowers as media celebrities that blow the whistle for their own self interests is so far off the mark as to fall into the realm of idiocy. Your comments are nonsensical, unworthy of a representative of the people of this great land and indicative of your personal approval of this administration’s philosophy of lies, obstruction, and retaliation and cover up. This can all be summarized with the word “corruption”.
Government whistleblowers continue to faithfully serve the nation by exposing misconduct and criminal activities in their agencies at great personal risk. How can anyone in government, particularly a Member of Congress, be against additional protections for these dedicated public servants?
As a retired law enforcement officer of thirty-two years, and having seen from the inside how government works, I must say that your comments and overall position on this very important subject lead me to question your commitment to honest government and your loyalty to the nation. I now join Ms. Edmonds in saying shame on you!
Respectfully,
Sandalio Gonzalez
